Vintage Brooches Marked with numbers only

 Hey You Lot meaning intelligent people who always have the answers so I see.

I am increasingly annoyed by numbers only on Vintage Brooches.  Is there anywhere I can find out who or where they were made and by who?  Sometimes it would be nice to get some History.  I have just come accross a Scottish Brooch marked 2252 and ideas people?  Thanks
